> Hands On (handson.pt) is Portugal's leading workshop marketplace, founded by Diogo Infante and Tom Archer. It connects people with 300+ hands-on experiences led by 180+ verified local teachers across Lisbon, Porto, and 17 regions of Portugal. Users can search, browse, book, and pay for workshops directly on the site. Workshops span cooking, arts and crafts, wellness, music, sports, photography, and more. The platform serves individuals, couples, families, groups, corporate teams, and independent teachers who want to list and sell their workshops. Hands On is operated by Learn something new, Lda and is available in English and Portuguese.

## The story

Hands On was started by two friends, Diogo and Tom, who worked together but discovered their real connection happened after hours — Tom taught Diogo how to make chilli sauces, Diogo got Tom into surfing. They kept asking the same question: why is it so hard to find and book the cool things there are to learn? That question became Hands On. The platform's values are creativity, joy, honesty, and bravery. The mission is to create a community that empowers people to learn new things hands on. The vision is to empower local communities around the world through hands-on learning.

**People looking for experiences:** Tourists visiting Lisbon or Porto who want to do something authentic and participatory rather than just sightseeing. Expats building social connections and learning new skills after moving to Portugal. Locals seeking creative, physical, or social activities. People looking for unique gifts for friends, partners, or family.

**Companies:** HR managers and team leads organising corporate team building events across Portugal. Companies looking for a hands-on alternative to standard corporate events.

**Teachers and workshop hosts:** Independent artisans, coaches, chefs, and instructors who want to list their workshops, reach a large audience, and handle bookings and payments without managing their own infrastructure.

## The booking experience

Workshops on Hands On use one of three booking modes, set by each teacher:

- **Instant booking:** The student books and pays immediately. The spot is confirmed automatically. Suitable for workshops with fixed recurring schedules.
- **Calendar requests:** The student requests a specific date. The teacher approves or declines, then payment is processed automatically.
- **Upon request:** For custom or private workshops. The student sends an enquiry, the teacher and student align on details, and a personalised experience is arranged.

No membership is required to book. Users register with email, Google, or Facebook.

## Pricing

Workshop prices on Hands On range from around €5 to €1,500 depending on format, duration, materials, and whether the session is individual or private. The vast majority of single-session workshops fall between €35 and €75 per person. Entry-level sessions such as drumming, tile painting, and pastel de nata workshops start at around €35. Mid-range workshops such as ceramics, pasta making, sourdough, photography, and cocktail classes typically cost between €45 and €75. Specialist craft workshops such as tufting, jewellery, and filigree run from €100 to €200. Multi-day or course-format workshops can reach €300 to €1,500. Private chef workshops at home are typically priced at €250 to €350.

## Duration

Most single-session workshops run for 2 to 3 hours. Shorter sessions exist from 45 minutes to 1.5 hours, typically for music, movement, or mindfulness. Longer single-day sessions run 4 to 8 hours for intensive craft or cooking formats. Multi-day formats exist for specialist subjects such as beekeeping (2 days), eco-construction (7 days), and permaculture design (14 days).

## Materials

Whether materials are included varies by workshop. Each listing specifies what is provided. Participants should check the individual workshop page before booking.

## Languages

Workshops are available in English, Portuguese, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Dutch, and Polish depending on the teacher. The platform interface is available in English and Portuguese.

## Cancellation policy

### Individual bookings
- 30 or more days before: full refund minus payment processing fees
- 7 to 29 days before: full refund minus 10% platform fee
- 3 to 6 days before: 50% refund
- Less than 3 days before: no refund, but the team can discuss alternative dates

### Team building bookings
- 30 or more days before: full refund minus processing fees
- 14 to 29 days before: full refund minus 15% platform fee
- 7 to 13 days before: 70% refund
- 3 to 6 days before: 40% refund
- Less than 3 days before: no refund

### Special cases
- If a teacher cancels: full refund including all fees
- Emergencies: contact Hands On directly to discuss options
- Refunds are returned to the original payment method within 5 to 10 business days, or as a voucher for a future booking

## Team building

Hands On offers customised corporate team building workshops for companies of all sizes across Portugal. Corporate partners include Uber, Ageas, Wizink, Seguro Direto, and Cartao Jovem. Group size varies by workshop. Companies submit a team building enquiry at handson.pt/team-building/ specifying team size, preferred activity categories, objectives, date, and duration. The Hands On team then reaches out directly by email, phone, or WhatsApp, sends a tailored proposal, and can schedule a call to discuss details. The follow-up channel is flexible and adapts to what works best for the company.

## Gift cards

Gift cards are available for any amount and are redeemable against any workshop on the platform. Available at handson.pt/gift-card/. They make a practical gift for anyone in Portugal interested in trying a new experience.

## Teaching on Hands On

Independent teachers and workshop hosts can list their experiences on Hands On and access the following:

- Direct messaging with students
- A smart calendar for availability and booking approvals
- A review system to build reputation
- An ambassador programme connecting teachers with influencers
- A WhatsApp community for skill swapping, space sharing, and live team support
- Automatic monthly payouts or on-demand payment requests
- Exposure to a partner network with a combined reach of over 1 million contacts, including Fidelidade, ISIC, Movijovem, Greenfest, LisbonPH, District.space, Wizink, and One Thousand Club
