Kintsugi is not just a repair technique, but also a philosophy that embraces impermanence and imperfection, finding beauty in the scars and history of each object 🖌️

In this introductory kintsugi workshop, you will experience the true alchemy of transforming broken ceramics into a new, richly decorated object with gold. You will learn about the kintsugi technique, the tools, and all the materials used in this practice.

To fully experience this process, it is necessary to visit the studio five times due to the nature and behavior of urushi lacquer.

Why join?

By mastering this technique, you will not only learn to preserve ceramics but also see value and beauty in life’s imperfections.

What’s included:

🖌️ The workshop price includes a kit (€200) with everything needed to practice kintsugi and a broken ceramic piece that you will take home at the end.

Awful. I went to Rita as she said that she could perform kintsugi restoration. I curated a collection of very special ceramics and pottery over 7 years spent in Japan. I also studied kintsugi there but when I moved to Portugal some pieces were broken in transit and beyond my skill of restoration. I wanted them to be restored properly using kintsugi so that I could enjoy them for years to come. Instead, they’ve all more or less been ruined by the ‘work’ that Rita has done on them. The lines are uneven, red lacquer is showing through, gold powder is spotted in places it shouldn’t be, as is lacquer, blobs of lacquer have been haphazardly placed to create huge uneven wells of gold. It’s a mess - all of it. The few items I asked for epoxy fix instead of lacquer are even worse - no gold coverage at all. Scuffed and white - a child could have done better. I’m so disappointed and sad at the state of everything. And she charged me almost 1700 euros for the privilege. Ridiculous.
