The Traditional Pottery workshop provides hands-on experience with the potter’s wheel and awareness of the various processes involved, as well as parallel construction methods 🫳

Based on the ancient art of crafting artifacts from clay, the goal is to explore various materials and utensils using various techniques. We want to familiarize participants with the fundamentals and symbolism of this ancient and universal craft, the qualities of clay, modeling techniques, and firing. The training is practical, involving potter’s wheels, and participants will create handmade pieces to take home.

Contents:

  • Introduction and presentation.
  • Kneading and preparing the clay.
  • Pottery practice: centering clay, making bowls, cups, plates, and mugs.
  • Finishing touches on the pieces.
  • Observing and understanding the drying cycle.
  • Learning to make edges, attachments, and joinings.
  • Final decorations using stamps, graffito and polishing.

Why join?

If you are interested in learning and intrigued by rudimentary and manual techniques, either as an introduction or for those wanting to deepen their knowledge in ceramics and clay. No previous experience is required.

The pieces produced by participants will be taken home at the end of the activity and can later be fired in a proper kiln.
