About
Hi — I’m Nathalie (but you can call me “Lie”). In 2018 I made a life-changing move with my husband and two daughters: we left Belgium and settled in the charming coastal town of Ericeira, Portugal. Back in Belgium I worked as a teacher, but once I arrived in Portugal I felt a deep longing for creative expression and something to stimulate my hands and my spirit. That’s when I discovered clay and ceramics — and the rest, as they say, is history.
My journey into pottery began when a passionate local ceramist introduced me to the wheel. Although my first pieces were imperfect and heavy, I immediately fell in love with clay. I invested in my own wheel and kiln, studied pottery techniques in Lisbon and Sintra, and even revisited fundamentals through courses in Belgium. Yet what really drove me was a desire to reconnect with community — the kind of social interaction I missed from teaching — but now centered around creativity, play, and shared passion. From that longing grew Tia Lie Casa Criativa: a cozy studio where both adults and children can explore their creativity and express themselves through clay.
At Tia Lie Casa Criativa I celebrate creativity in all its forms — whether it’s wheel-thrown pottery, hand-built pieces, experimental shapes or vibrant colors. Drawing on my years of teaching experience, I guide participants patiently and joyfully, helping them grow, take risks, make mistakes … and above all, have fun. I create handmade tableware, unique ceramic jewelry, and organize workshops, “clay-tasting parties”, and ceramics-based gatherings for people to connect, learn and create — inspired by the natural beauty and coastal vibes around Ericeira. Each piece is made with care, heart, and love. I’m truly thankful for this journey — and I can’t wait to share my passion and pottery-love with you in my studio in Santo Isidoro.
