In this workshop, all you need is your fully charged phone or tablet and plenty of curiosity to explore Porto! Through a 1.5-hour tour, we will teach you how to photograph with your phone in a different way 🤳🏼
We will explore lesser-known streets, away from the crowds, and find unique details and interesting stories.
Along the way, we will show you how to make the most of your phone or tablet to improve your photography skills. We will cover techniques, composition, leading lines, and other useful tips. We will also share the apps we use to edit photos while traveling.
By the end of this workshop, you will have a set of images of Porto ready to share on your social media, along with plenty of tips to improve your photographic style. Believe us, discovering a city through photography is a very different and unique way to get to know it.
At the end of the workshop, we will offer you a pastel de nata and a drink of your choice (water, lemon water, tea, or coffee) at one of our favorite viewpoints in the city.
Other things to note:
- If you have no experience taking photos with your phone or tablet, don’t worry, we will tailor the workshop to your needs.
- If you already use your phone to photograph your travels, I’m sure we will have something new to teach you!
- The route is approximately 2 km and involves climbing stairs, so please wear suitable clothing and footwear.

More about your Teacher João Cruz
João Cruz (1990) is a Portuguese photographer and videographer, based in Porto. He works with a wide variety of clients and projects, covering portrait, food and beverages, personal brands, and nature. In each project, he brings his distinctive vision, adapted to each theme.
His personal projects explore themes such as family, the connection between people and nature, identity, and sense of place—seeking to capture the emotional and cultural ties that unite people with their contexts.
Since 2014, he has taught photography and video in various settings, including associations, companies, and private classes. Through teaching, he seeks not only to transmit technical skills but also to inspire a deeper understanding of visual narrative, helping others to find their creative voice and express unique perspectives.
