Mobile photography workshop in Porto for anyone who wants to see the city differently, guided by professional photographer and videographer João Cruz through 1.5 hours of lesser-known streets, hidden details and unique viewpoints that most visitors never find. All you need is a fully charged phone or tablet and plenty of curiosity. Whether you have never thought consciously about photography before or already use your phone to document your travels, João will have something genuinely new to teach you.

The route covers approximately two kilometres through Porto’s quieter streets, away from the crowds, with João teaching composition, leading lines and other practical techniques as you go, adapting the session entirely to the level and needs of the group. You will also learn the editing apps João uses while travelling, so you leave with a set of images ready to share and the tools to keep improving independently. The workshop ends at one of João’s favourite viewpoints in the city with a pastel de nata and a drink of your choice, a fitting way to look back at what you just photographed. Please wear comfortable clothing and suitable footwear as the route involves climbing stairs.

I am João Cruz, a Portuguese photographer and videographer based in Porto, working across portrait, food and beverages, personal brands and nature since 2014. My personal projects explore themes of family, the connection between people and nature, identity and sense of place. I have been teaching photography and video in associations, companies and private classes for over ten years, not just to transmit technical skills but to help people find their creative voice and express unique perspectives. Discovering Porto through photography is one of the most enjoyable ways I know to do both at once.

No prior photography experience needed. Route is approximately 2km and involves climbing stairs. Wear comfortable clothing and suitable footwear.
