There is a particular way of seeing a city that only happens when you stop and draw it. My urban sketching workshop in Lisbon takes you out into the streets, squares and historic neighbourhoods of the city with a sketchbook in hand, teaching you how to observe, simplify and capture what you see in a spontaneous and expressive way. No previous drawing experience needed and no pressure to produce anything perfect. The focus is on developing your eye, building confidence and leaving with a set of sketches that are entirely your own visual memory of Lisbon.

We move through one or two nearby locations during the session, working through quick sketching and watercolour techniques that help you capture scenes outdoors with simple tools. I cover composition, perspective and visual storytelling as we go, giving individual feedback and creative support throughout. Lisbon’s architecture, tiled facades, scenic viewpoints and abundant sunlight make it one of the best cities in the world for this kind of work, and the session is deliberately relaxed and unhurried so there is always time to actually look before you draw.

I am Anna Matos, a multidisciplinary artist who believes creativity belongs to everyone. I have spent the past few years designing workshops that combine art, wellbeing and experimentation in spaces that feel genuinely accessible, whether you have never picked up a pencil or you already enjoy making art. My goal is always the same: that you leave having enjoyed the process and made something that feels like yours.

Participants are welcome to bring their own sketchbook or drawing tools if they prefer working with personal materials. No prior drawing experience needed.

More about your Teacher Anna Matos

    Anna Matos

Hi, I’m Anna Matos. I’m a multidisciplinary artist passionate about making creativity accessible, fun, and meaningful.
I believe everyone is creative and art should be accessible to everyone. You don’t need to be “an artist” to enjoy making things.
Over the past few years, I’ve been helping people explore their creativity through artistic experiences that combine art, well-being, and experimentation.
My workshops are designed for anyone, whether you’re just curious to try something new or you already enjoy making art. I offer a safe and relaxed space to disconnect from the daily grind, explore new techniques, and rediscover the simple joy of creating something with your own hands.
