I am an animal production engineer and equestrian trainer, having dedicated my career to the management of equestrian centers and the training of sport horses. After years of experience at leading institutions and training new students, I currently focus on my personal project, José Carvalho Neto Dressage, in Vale de Santarém. On the competitive side, my journey in Dressage is marked by the Open National Champion (Small Tour) title in 2015 and several podium finishes in prestigious competitions, such as the Taça de Portugal. In 2017, I reached an important milestone in my technical evolution with my debut in Grand Prix competitions. I believe in continuous evolution, which is why I seek to learn from the best. Beyond my academic and technical training, I have the privilege of training regularly with Olympic rider Gonçalo Carvalho, consolidating a daily commitment to the excellence and rigor that the sport demands.
No prior experience is needed! This beginner-friendly session is designed for anyone curious about horses and eager to try something new. José Carvalho Neto will guide you through every step, from approaching and caring for the horse to experiencing your first movements in the saddle.
You'll be guided by José Carvalho Neto, a production animal engineer, equestrian trainer and 2015 National Open Dressage Champion. With his experience in competitive dressage and sport horse training, José will introduce you to the relationship between horse and rider, helping you discover the importance of trust, balance and communication in this elegant discipline.
The session takes place in Vale de Santarém, in the heart of Portugal's Ribatejo region, a historic area known for its equestrian traditions. You arrange your session time directly with José Carvalho Neto, subject to his availability and weather conditions. On particularly hot days, lessons are scheduled for early morning or late afternoon to ensure the wellbeing of both horse and rider.
The experience is divided into two 30-minute halves. First, you'll get to know the horse, learn how to approach and care for it, brush it and prepare its tack. Then, you'll spend 30 minutes in the saddle with José by your side, discovering balance, movement and the fundamentals of dressage.
Closed shoes are required for your safety around horses. Comfortable clothing is recommended so you can move freely during the ground preparation and riding session. No previous riding equipment or experience is specified as necessary.
