Raku is a ceramic firing technique known for its distinctive and often unpredictable finishes. The process involves heating glazed ceramic pieces to high temperatures and rapidly cooling them, creating effects such as crackled surfaces, metallic tones and variations in colour.
The workshop is intended for ceramics enthusiasts and artists interested in exploring raku. No prior experience is required.
Yes. Participants paint a bisque-fired ceramic piece using raku glazes and take part in the guided workshop process.
Raku firing involves very high temperatures and requires specialist handling. The process should be guided by the workshop facilitator, and participants must follow all safety instructions and respect designated viewing and working areas.
You’ll leave with a deeper understanding of raku firing and its distinctive ceramic finishes, along with the experience of watching a piece transform through heat and rapid cooling. If the finished ceramic piece is included for participants to keep, it can also become a unique reminder of your creative experimentation and participation in the international gathering.
