No previous experience is generally required to start learning. The course combines theoretical lessons with practical sessions to help you develop the knowledge and skills needed for recreational navigation. Check with BBDouro to confirm the entry requirements for the next course.
The course includes theoretical classes, three practical sessions, access to online study materials, preparation for the official examination, examination and licence issuance fees, insurance and VAT.
The course typically lasts 4–6 weeks. Theoretical classes take place twice a week in the evening, while the three practical sessions are scheduled on weekends. Exact days and times should be confirmed with BBDouro.
Upon successfully meeting the course and examination requirements, you can obtain the Marinheiro recreational boating licence. It allows navigation within specific limits regarding vessel size, engine power, distance from the coast and daylight hours. Restrictions apply to licence holders under 18.
Wear comfortable clothing suitable for practical activities on the water. The course fee includes the examination and licence issuance fees, insurance and VAT. Transport, meals, personal equipment and any additional lessons or examination retakes are not confirmed as included, so check with BBDouro before booking.

The BBDouro Marinheiro Course includes 30 hours of training in total: - 20 hours of theoretical lessons - 10 hours of practical training on the water The course is spread over 4–6 weeks, with theory classes twice a week in the evenings and three practical sessions at weekends.
