Beginner surf lesson at Praia Grande for anyone who wants to learn to surf at one of the most beautiful and consistent beaches on the Sintra coast. Led by Pedro Marques, born and raised at Praia das Maças just along this same coastline, these two-hour group sessions run daily with one instructor per group of six students, giving you

During summer the lessons run at least twice daily at flexible times adapted to the surf forecast and tidal conditions. Outside summer they run once daily on weekdays and weekends, always adjusted to conditions and group level. The session follows a clear and proven structure designed to get you standing on the board and riding your first waves safely and confidently: safety rules and warm-up, sand practice to build the muscle memory for the take-off, and time in the water with ongoing coaching, real-time feedback and genuine encouragement throughout. Pedro’s approach is fun, enthusiastic and rooted in a deep personal connection to the ocean and to sharing it with people who are experiencing it from a surfboard for the very first time.

What you’ll learn

🏄 Essential surf safety rules and warm-up techniques

🏄 Sand practice exercises to build the foundation for the take-off

🏄 The take-off technique and base position for riding a wave

🏄 How to position yourself in the water for catching waves

🏄 The basics of wave riding with ongoing coaching and real-time feedback

🌊 All surf equipment including board, wetsuit and leash, fully sanitised

🌊 Certified instructor with a maximum of 6 students per group

I am Pedro Marques, born and raised at Praia das Maças on the Sintra coast, where the mountains meet the sea. I have had a strong connection with the ocean since childhood through surfing and bodyboarding, and the main goal of my surf school is to transmit that passion in a fun and enthusiastic way. The ocean has given me so much and I want to share that with every student who steps into the water with me.
