Fleece to yarn workshop in Ourique at Monte São Pedro, a small family-run farm in the peaceful landscapes of Baixo Alentejo, for anyone who wants to learn the full process of wool transformation from raw fleece to spun yarn in a single immersive day. From understanding the different types of wool produced at the farm and evaluating fibre quality through to washing, preparing and spinning your own wool on a spindle and spinning wheel, this is a genuinely complete and hands-on introduction to one of the oldest textile traditions in the world. Lunch and all materials included. Booking required at least six days in advance.
The day moves through the full wool processing sequence in a natural and unhurried way, grounded in the actual agricultural context of Monte São Pedro. If visiting during spring, sheep shearing may also be part of the experience. You learn to separate, select and roll the fleece, wash the wool correctly and prepare it for spinning through teasing, combing and carding before moving to the spindle and spinning wheel to put everything you have learned into practice. The day closes with a visit to the farm to discover the daily routine of this working agricultural property. Children are also catered for with educational and recreational activities related to wool throughout the day. Participants take home the wool they spun.
