Nail loom weaving classes in Santa Maria da Feira at Olaiescola atelier de costura for anyone who wants to discover the art of manual weaving through a simple and remarkably versatile instrument. Led by Cristina Pereira, a trained Textile Designer who divides her time between technical fabric design for the textile industry and creative weaving through her project Woven Design Têxtil, these beginner-level Saturday morning sessions run from 9am to 12pm, once a week, with monthly enrolment and no obligation to renew. Minimum three and maximum ten students per class. All materials provided for the first session.
The nail loom is an accessible starting point that opens up an extraordinary range of textures, patterns and techniques, and Cristina structures the course around four distinct approaches that students can choose between: Creative Weaving for total freedom to mix yarns, colours and textures; Krokbragd, the Scandinavian weaving technique adapted for the nail loom; Continuous Weaving, a fluid and fast technique using only the loom and a needle; and Technical Drawing and Structures for understanding the underlying architecture of woven fabric. Every technique covers the complete process from scratch to finishing, including building your own nail loom, preparing and mounting the warp, learning the main weaving stitches and safely removing and finishing the final piece.
