Ceramics workshop in Porto at Terra Boa Atelier for anyone who has always wanted to try ceramics but never known where to start. Led by Joana Nogueira, visual artist, ceramicist and educator based in Porto since 2012, this three-hour session gives you complete creative freedom to design and build your own piece from scratch with no rigid rules and no fixed outcome. You learn hand modelling techniques, sculpting and engobe painting, and leave having made something that is entirely and personally yours. Open to ages 12 and over with no prior experience needed. Minimum five and maximum twelve participants.

The session moves through the full creative process from first idea to finished painted piece. You begin with an introduction to ceramic modelling rules and techniques before moving into the ideation and modelling phase, where each participant works at their own pace and in their own creative direction with Joana’s guidance available throughout. The finishing stage covers engobe painting to add colour and life to your piece before it is set aside for drying, firing and glazing. Pieces are stored at the atelier and ready for collection from one month after the workshop. Participants are notified when their pieces are ready and have up to three months to collect.

I am Joana Nogueira, a multidisciplinary visual artist and educator based in Porto since 2012. I work between ceramics and animation cinema, building worlds populated by hybrid characters that cross imagination, humour and personal memory. My ceramic project operates under the identity Não Sou Rita, where play, irony and creative freedom are central. I hold a degree in Fine Arts from ESAD.CR and the Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia, and a Master’s in Illustration and Animation from IPCA. In 2020 I founded Terra Boa Atelier in Porto, where I develop my own work and teach ceramics. My work is present in shops and exhibition spaces across Portugal, Europe and the USA.
