Gouache and gold paint illustration workshop in Cascais at House of Wonders Restaurant on Tuesday 12 May at 10am, a three-hour project-based class where you paint leopards using gouache and mica-based gold paint, guided by freelance illustrator and designer Julie Lesouef Baleia. All materials included, a light brunch and drinks are part of the experience and you leave with a finished illustration that combines the richness of gouache with the warmth of gold. Perfect for complete beginners and more experienced artists alike. Sessions run in English and French.

The combination of gouache and mica-based gold paint creates a particularly satisfying and visually striking result, and Julie guides you through working with both media in a way that feels accessible and genuinely enjoyable from the first brushstroke. Her background as a freelance illustrator and mural painter gives her a deep understanding of colour, texture and the kind of creative freedom that makes a workshop feel like play rather than instruction. You also receive a digital handout with guidance to support you during the class throughout the session.

I am Julie Lesouef Baleia, a freelance illustrator and designer based in Portugal. I left corporate communications in 2016, moved to Portugal and retrained as a graphic designer and illustrator. Painting has always been part of who I am and in recent years my work has expanded into murals, which give me a sense of creative freedom that is genuinely unmatched. I run workshops in the Lisbon region where I guide people to create their own illustrations in a relaxed and friendly environment. The goal is always the same: that you leave having had fun, made something you love and discovered a medium worth returning to.

Takes place on Tuesday 12 May at 10am at House of Wonders Restaurant, Cascais. Duration approximately three hours. Sessions in English and French. Price 50 euros including all materials and brunch.

More about your Teacher Julie Lesouef Baleia

    Julie Lesouef Baleia

    Hi, my name is Julie!

I started my career as a corporate communications professional in the finance and medical regulation fields, living in a big city and working hard. I was fine while it lasted…

In 2016, I quit the rat race and moved to Portugal. This is when I changed path and retrained as a graphic designer and started a career as a freelance illustrator and designer. Painting was always something I loved to do. In recent years, the format I work on became bigger and bigger and I found a passion for painting murals. The freeing feeling it provides is unmatched. There’s nothing like surrounding yourself with things you love and colors that make you feel good, whether in your home, office or anywhere you spend time.

You can now also join me for fun and relaxing workshops, in the Lisbon region, where I’ll guide you to create your own illustration.
