Hi, I'm Ebru — architect, maker, and the person behind Moonmade (@moonmade.paperworks).
I've always been drawn to art and design, so studying architecture & urban design felt like a natural fit. I spent many years living and working as an architect in Belgium and Turkey before moving to Portugal at the end of 2021. These days I keep building both worlds in parallel — designing for Moonmade while continuing my architectural journey, and facilitating artistic workshops at places like Museu do Oriente and Espaço Japão in Lisbon, and various art centers back in Istanbul.
My interest in paper and origami got serious around 2010. What drew me in was the dialogue between material and design — the idea that a flat, simple, recyclable sheet can become something three-dimensional and alive. Nature is my biggest source of inspiration, and paper feels like the right material to translate it: abstract it, play with color and texture, push it into new forms. My favorite part is making objects that bring people joy. That never gets old.

Not at all! The workshop is suitable for complete beginners. Ebru will guide you step by step through the kinusaiga technique, from choosing your pattern and fabrics to completing your finished piece.
Kinusaiga is a Japanese textile art technique that creates mosaic-like images by tucking small pieces of fabric into grooves in a soft board. Unlike traditional sewing or collage, the pieces are secured through pressure — no glue or stitching is needed.
You can choose from a wide range of templates, including Lisbon and azulejo-inspired designs, as well as many other patterns. If you prefer, you can also create your own freestyle design and fill it with fabric.
Yes. Everything you need for the workshop is included, including fabrics, tools, the spongy board and other supplies. At the end, you'll also place your finished kinusaiga piece in a handmade paper frame to take home.
You’ll take home a finished kinusaiga mosaic artwork that you made entirely by hand, placed in a handmade paper frame. It will be ready to display or give as a unique handmade gift.
