This course is designed for people who want to explore ceramics beyond the basics and develop their creative practice. Some familiarity with working with clay may be helpful, particularly when experimenting with decorative techniques. We recommend checking with the organiser whether previous ceramics experience is required.
Nerikomi is a Japanese ceramic technique that uses different colours of clay to create patterns within the material itself. You'll explore how coloured clays can be combined to produce graphic designs that become an integral part of the ceramic piece.
The course price is €120 for four classes. The exact arrangements for clay, tools, glazes and kiln firings should be confirmed with the organiser before booking, as these inclusions have not been specified in the course details.
Your ceramic pieces need time to dry and undergo the required firing process before the final session. The one-week break allows this stage to take place, preparing your work for glazing and the final kiln firing. Please confirm the exact firing sequence with the organiser.
Not necessarily. The course encourages experimentation and personal expression rather than perfect results. You'll explore drawing and composition, with transfer techniques and stencils available to help you develop your design.
