About

Luísa Leão is a textile artist, designer, and researcher whose practice explores the intersection of material, memory, and identity. Originally from Brasília and now based in the Algarve, Portugal, her work transforms traditional textile techniques into contemporary, abstract compositions that reflect themes of ancestry, sustainability, the body, and the passage of time. Working primarily with wool, reclaimed textiles, and natural fibers, Luísa creates tactile works that honor the slow, intuitive process of making. Each piece carries traces of personal and collective histories, weaving together craftsmanship, experimentation, and a deep respect for materiality. Alongside her artistic practice, Luísa is a PhD researcher in Arts at the University of Beira Interior and an artist-in-residence at Galeria GamaRama. She also leads textile workshops and community initiatives, sharing ancestral techniques while encouraging new forms of creative expression. Through her atelier, Luísa invites viewers to reconnect with the beauty of handmade processes, where every thread becomes a gesture of care, memory, and transformation.
