Comics drawing workshop in Lisbon for anyone who has ever wanted to turn everyday moments into illustrated stories but had no idea where to start. Led by Emily McGovern, a full-time cartoonist and graphic novelist with nine years of professional experience and two published graphic novels behind her, this 2.5-hour session teaches you the fundamental grammar of comics through

Schedule Program

30 min Learn the fundamentals of comic-making, including panel composition, speech bubbles, character expressions and visual storytelling.
10 min Choose a small personal anecdote or everyday moment to turn into a comic.
90 min Spend around 1.5 hours drawing their own one-page autobiographical comic with guidance from Emily.
90 min Receive personalized tips and feedback throughout the creative process.
30 min Learn how to turn ordinary experiences into a visual story that reads clearly and naturally.

Emily is a full-time cartoonist and graphic novelist of 9 years. In 2016, her first comic 'Bloodlust & Bonnets' was shortlisted for the prestigious Observer/Jonathan Cape Graphic Short Story Prize. It was expanded and published as a graphic novel by Simon & Schuster (UK) and Andrews McMeel (US) in September 2019, and was shortlisted for the 2020 Comedy Women In Print Prize. Her second graphic novel, 'Twelve Percent Dread', was published to acclaim by Picador (UK) and Dark Horse Comics (US) in 2022 Emily is currently working the wildly popular social media comic 'Nuns', and continues to publish new comics on her social media accounts and Patreon page under her moniker @emilyscartoons.
