DJ fundamentals workshop in Lisbon for anyone who wants to understand what DJing actually involves before committing to equipment or committing to a style. Led by Camboja Selecta, one of Lisbon’s most respected DJs and a key figure in the development of turntablism and scratch culture in Portugal, this session takes you from zero to a genuine working understanding of sound systems, mixing techniques and beat matching in a single hands-on session. Minimum four participants and all professional equipment provided.
Camboja guides you through the fundamentals in sequence: equipment setup and how a DJ system works, basic beat matching and how to keep two tracks in time, and an introduction to scratching, the technique that separates a DJ from someone pressing play. The session also includes a practical equipment buying guide so you leave knowing exactly what to look for and what to spend if you want to continue at home. Camboja’s background spans reggae, soul, funk, jazz, African music and Hip Hop, with international experience in Salvador da Bahia alongside Brazilian music icons, and he brings that breadth of knowledge to how he teaches as much as to how he plays.

I am Camboja Selecta, a DJ and music educator based in Lisbon with a fusion of influences spanning Hip Hop, reggae, soul, funk, jazz and African music. My contribution to the development of turntablism in Portugal through the Scratchers Anónimos collective is a milestone in the country’s Hip Hop culture, and I have spent years organising events, jams and workshops dedicated to training new generations of DJs and musicians. This workshop exists because I believe the fundamentals, learned properly from the beginning, make everything that follows possible.
