Sewing starter workshop in Lisbon for anyone who has ever wondered how to make their own clothes, mend what they already own or simply learn a skill that stays useful for life. At The Loft Atelier in the heart of Lisbon, this 3.5-hour Saturday session covers all the basics you need to get started: the essential stitches, sewing accessories, how to thread a machine and how to actually use one with confidence. You leave with a tote bag made by your own hands and the foundation to keep going.
The session runs on the first Saturday of every month from 10am to 1.30pm, limited to six participants to keep the atmosphere personal and the guidance genuinely individual. The Loft Atelier is a sewing school and co-sewing space built around the belief that everyone can learn to sew, and the environment reflects that: welcoming, creative, musically alive and stocked with tea, snacks and good company throughout. This is as much about the pleasure of learning something new in a great space as it is about the technique itself.
What you’ll learn

🪡 Sewing accessories and what each one is for
🪡 How to thread a sewing machine and operate it with confidence
🪡 How to complete a full project from start to finish by making your own tote bag
🪡 The foundations of sustainable sewing including upcycling and mending

What you leave with
A tote bag you made yourself, a working understanding of the sewing machine and the basic stitches, and a genuinely useful skill you can keep developing from this point forward.
We are The Loft Atelier, a sewing school and co-sewing space for creators in the heart of Lisbon. We believe everyone can learn to sew and we opened our creative space to prove it, offering options for complete beginners, hobby seekers and advanced designers alike. We teach in Portuguese, English and German, always with groovy music and wine if needed.
Sessions run on the first Saturday of every month from 10am to 1.30pm. Limited to 6 participants. No prior sewing experience needed.
