Caroline Vidal is an artist dedicated to the art of Portuguese tiles — the famous azulejos. With over 20 years of experience, she has dedicated her life to this traditional craft and has been organizing immersive workshops in Lisbon for more than 10 years. Her studio, located in one of the most authentic neighborhoods of the city, is a bright and inspiring space deeply connected to the local history. Caroline warmly welcomes visitors from all over the world, sharing the secrets of this unique craftsmanship and blending cultural heritage with personal artistic expression. Each participant is invited to immerse themselves in the world of azulejos, learning the painting techniques on tiles and creating their own piece to take home. The workshop is designed to be accessible to everyone, whether they are beginners or art enthusiasts. More than just a workshop, this experience is a connection to Portugal's living heritage, guided by a passionate and generous artist. It’s a creative and authentic break, perfect for adding a meaningful and beautiful touch to your stay in Lisbon.
Not at all! This workshop is designed for beginners as well as experienced artists. Your instructor will guide you through every step, from learning traditional techniques to creating your own hand-painted azulejos.
You'll create two authentic Portuguese ceramic tiles (azulejos) painted by you using traditional techniques. Your tiles will be professionally fired in the kiln and ready for collection 1–2 days after the workshop, giving you a unique handmade souvenir from Lisbon.
The workshop lasts approximately 2–3 hours, giving you plenty of time to learn about the history of azulejos, practice traditional painting techniques, and complete your two ceramic tiles.
The workshop is held in a charming atelier in Madredeus, close to Alfama and the National Azulejo Museum, making it easy to combine your experience with a visit to one of Lisbon's most iconic museums.
Yes! The workshop is ideal for solo travellers, couples, families, and small groups. The relaxed atmosphere and small class sizes ensure everyone receives personal guidance.

Gostei muito deste workshop! É uma excelente maneira de estimular a criatividade. Aprendi bastante, uma vez que não fazia ideia de como se pintava azulejos. Recomendo bastante.

This was a brilliant workshop! Marie Caroline gave us a great history and background, and the tile painting was excellent. It was just lovely to spend a few hours with a group of people completely inspired and engrossed in our creations. I want to do more ;’) Can’t recommend this workshop highly enough. *****+
