Fermented foods are one of the oldest and most effective ways to support your gut health, and most people have no idea how simple they are to make at home. Our lacto-fermentation workshop in Lagos takes you through the full process of making sauerkraut and other fermented foods from scratch, combining the theory behind why these foods work so well in the body with hands-on preparation so you leave knowing exactly what to do and why. The session is bilingual, running in both Portuguese and English throughout.

We split the session into two parts. The first covers the science and logic behind lacto-fermentation: what these foods do in your gut, how they support your body’s functioning, and why the process works the way it does. The second part is entirely hands-on, with every participant actively involved in preparing the ferments alongside Ana and Patrícia. You will work through the preparations together, ask questions as they come up, and finish the session with a clear understanding of how to continue at home independently.

We are Ana Marreiros and Patrícia Pereira and we run this workshop together at the Mercearia Bio kitchen in Lagos. Ana has over twenty years of experience in natural cooking and fermentation, creating simple, healthy and flavourful products through artisanal processes and a conscious relationship with food. Patrícia is passionate about fermented foods and natural health, and loves sharing practical knowledge about how to create living foods simply, safely and full of flavour. Between us we cover both the why and the how, so you leave with the full picture.

No prior experience with fermentation or natural cooking needed. If you are curious about gut health and want to start making your own fermented foods, this is exactly the right place to begin.
