Drum workshop in Braga for anyone who wants to experience rhythm as something more than technique, guided by Rui Rodrigues, a full-time musician, author, teacher and researcher with over thirty years dedicated to drums and the universal language of rhythm. Whether you are a complete beginner or a professional player, this 60-minute session is designed to expand the way you think about, feel and play rhythm through fundamental and advanced techniques, interactive exercises and group dynamics that connect music to something genuinely human.

The session explores four interconnected areas: drumming techniques tailored to all skill levels, the universal language of rhythm and how it connects people beyond words, creativity in practice through interactive exercises, and the integration of technique and emotion in performance. Rui brings a depth of musical and pedagogical experience to every session that is genuinely rare, having worked with internationally recognised musicians, composed for theatre, written books on percussion including Manual de Percussão Tradicional and A Toque de Caixa, and led hundreds of workshops and masterclasses across schools, conservatories and special education programmes. All drum sticks provided and creative freedom is the whole point.

I am Rui Rodrigues, a full-time musician, author, teacher and researcher based in Portugal. For the last thirty years my life has revolved around drums and the search for the essence of rhythm and its impact on us as human beings. Since my degree in communication and journalism I have believed that rhythm is a transcendent form of communication, a universal language understood by everyone. I have had the privilege of working with musicians including Josh Dion, Galandum Galundaina, Michael Lauren and many others, played in multiple bands, composed for theatre directed by António Fonseca and Paulo Castro, and written books on percussion. But none of it would matter if I did not live to play drums.
