Hello! I’m a Kintsugi artist based in Lisbon. Growing up in Japan, I was naturally drawn to the quiet depth of traditional craftsmanship, eventually spending years mastering the intricate art of authentic Urushi lacquer.
For me, Kintsugi is much more than repair—it’s a quiet celebration of history, sustainability, and mindful living. By weaving ancient Japanese aesthetics into a modern, slow lifestyle, I hope to offer a space where people can pause, work with their hands, and find meaning in imperfection.
Whether you're joining for a single workshop, a deeper traditional course, or a bespoke restoration, I look forward to sharing this timeless practice with you here in Lisbon.
Yes, it's a suitable material for tableware. The main materials, such as the setting agent and putty, are Japanese-made food-safe items.
Yes, we use real lacquer. Since lacquer can cause a rash if it comes into direct contact with the skin, gloves are prepared in the workshop.
Not at all! This workshop is suitable for complete beginners as well as art and craft lovers. Miyuki will guide you step by step through the process, so you can enjoy the experience at your own pace.
All the necessary tools and materials for the Kintsugi activity are provided, along with hands-on guidance and an introduction to the history and philosophy of this traditional Japanese art. You’ll have the opportunity to repair and highlight ceramic cracks and create your own unique piece.
Please contact Miyuki by message before the workshop to check whether your ceramic piece is suitable for the technique used. If bringing your own piece isn't possible, a ceramic piece can be provided for you to work on, subject to the workshop arrangements.
This depends on the materials and techniques used. Traditional Urushi lacquer requires time to cure properly, so some pieces may need additional drying time. You'll receive guidance on how and when to collect or safely take home your finished creation.
