Lampshade making workshop in Estoril with Maria João Teixeira de Abreu, a three-hour hands-on session for anyone who wants to learn to create their own handmade lampshade from start to finish, with complete materials, personalised step-by-step guidance and a finished piece to take home. Designed for complete beginners and equally relevant for those already working in decoration, crafts or interior design who want to expand their skills and portfolio. Maximum six participants per session.

The session covers the full lampshade construction process across three hours: choosing the right materials and structure, applying the covering and working through the finishing details that give each piece its quality and aesthetic. Maria João guides every stage clearly and personally, ensuring that every participant feels confident and well-supported throughout the execution. More than a technical skill, the workshop is an invitation to think about light as an essential design element and to discover how a handmade lampshade can transform the atmosphere of any space.

I am Maria João Teixeira de Abreu, 59 years old, born in Luanda and living in Estoril since the age of 7. After 25 years working in business management, I now dedicate myself to this project with the hope of bringing people together, creating moments of good humour and creativity and witnessing the development of each person’s abilities. The joy is in watching people discover what they can make. The challenge is managing an activity where efficiency is not the priority.

More about your Teacher Maria João Teixeira de Abreu

    Maria João Teixeira de Abreu

I am 59 years old, married, and the mother of five children and three grandchildren. I was born in Luanda and have lived in Estoril since I was seven years old — places where I have always felt accompanied by the horizon of the sea, a line that seems to connect the sky to the earth.

With a degree in Business Management, I worked for 25 years in management roles in companies where I learned and grew both personally and professionally.

At this stage of my life, I dedicate myself to managing this project, where I hope to bring the community together, meet new people, and create moments of joy and creativity.

The greatest pleasure will be watching each person develop their own skills. The challenge will be managing an activity where efficiency is not the priority.
