Jo Seixas da Silva is an artist from Porto, Gondomar who has always been passionate about art. Although she initially pursued interactive design, she shifted away from graphics when she ventured into the Faculty of Fine Arts in Lisbon. There, she quickly realized that painting and performance were the paths she wanted to follow.
Working professionally as a visual artist since 2013, Jo found her identity in painting, reconnecting with her roots in the neighborhoods of Porto where she spent her childhood. Growing up surrounded by her 12 aunts, who always empowered her, influenced the aesthetic of her work, focusing on the delicacy and power of femininity. She aims to challenge the viewer through the confidence conveyed by the gaze of her characters.
The vibrant colors and drips common in her work reflect her childlike perspective on a "gray" Porto that came to life through spray paints on the city's walls and trains, creating a vivid journey.
Through her collective, Art Studio Lisbon, Jo's characters are literally scattered around the world, and her work is recognized in various European galleries and art fairs.
No. The workshop is designed for complete beginners as much as for experienced drawers. You won't be drawing what you see but what you hear, so there's no "right" result — Jo guides you with prompts and encouragement, never corrections.
Just yourself. Charcoal, paper, insurance, a glass of wine and water are all included. Charcoal can smudge, so wear clothes you don't mind getting a little dusty, and bring a folder or tube if you'd like to protect your drawings on the way home.
Yes. A live instrumental jazz & blues performance runs throughout the session, so every workshop is different — your drawings respond to the energy of that exact performance, not to a playlist.
The session lasts 1 hour. It opens with the musicians playing while Jo introduces drawing from sound; you then move through listening, feeling the rhythm, and drawing with charcoal across a live set, producing several expressive drawings you take home.
Absolutely. It works well for couples, friends and birthdays, and private sessions can be arranged for teams or special occasions — use "Privatize for Your Group" or "Ask the teacher a question" on the listing to request a private date.
