Mini rug tufting workshop in Lisbon where you create your own handcrafted miniature tufted rug (18x22cm) in a single guided session with illustrator and visual artist Francisco Couto. Choose from pre-designed patterns, personalise your colour selection and learn the basics of the tufting technique in an intimate and genuinely enjoyable workshop that is as meditative as it is creative. Perfect for craft enthusiasts, curious first-timers and anyone who wants to try rug making in a manageable and accessible format. Bring a friend and share the experience.

Francisco has been working with the tufting technique for four years, finding in tapestry a unique and expressive medium that sits beautifully between illustration, craft and the kind of focused making that feels like a genuine escape from screens and digital life. He started running tufting workshops in Barcelona in 2021 and has since shared the joy of the technique with people from all over the world. The classes are now back in Lisbon, his beloved hometown, and the approach remains the same: personal, generous and full of the quiet satisfaction that comes from making something with your hands.

I am Francisco Couto, also known as dead_laranja, an illustrator and visual artist based in Lisbon. For the last four years I have focused my practice on the tufting technique, finding in tapestry a beautiful and meditative process that feels like a genuine counterpoint to the digital world. I started sharing this technique with workshop participants in Barcelona in 2021 and have been doing so ever since, because watching someone discover this process for the first time never gets old.

No prior experience with tufting or craft needed. Sessions are intimate by design. Bring a friend and share the rug if you like.
