Surf lesson in Ericeira at the first World Surfing Reserve in Europe, guided by João Paulino, a Level 2 certified surf coach who has been surfing since 1990 and running 7ª Essência Surfing School since 2009. This two-hour session takes complete beginners from the beach through their first waves in the water, with all equipment included and a coach who genuinely loves the ocean and what it does for the people who learn to surf in it.
The session begins on the beach with the essentials: how to put on a wetsuit, how to choose the right board size for a beginner and the safety rules that every surfer needs to know before entering the water. From there you move into the ocean, starting with an adaptation phase without the board to feel the movement and force of the waves before picking up the surfboard and beginning to catch whitewater. The technical progression moves toward standing up on the board, with João guiding every stage and adapting his coaching to your pace and confidence throughout. Please note that lesson times depend on tides and sea conditions and the schedule may be adjusted daily to ensure the best possible learning conditions.

I am João Paulino, manager and Level 2 surf coach at 7ª Essência Surfing School in Ericeira. I have been surfing since 1990, hold a degree in Sports Sciences from 2005 and have been certified by the Portuguese Surf Federation since 2001. I have been running this school since 2009 and I love surfing every single day. My goal with every lesson is to guarantee the best possible surf experience, whatever your starting point.
