Mother’s Day sourdough pizza workshop in Lisbon for anyone who wants to give the best kind of gift: an afternoon of making something delicious from scratch together. Held at Sara Di Rocco’s home in Lisbon, this hands-on session takes you through the full process of authentic sourdough pizza, from mixing and shaping your own dough using a live sourdough starter to choosing your toppings and sitting down to eat the pizza you just made, paired with wine, beer or soft drinks. No prior experience needed, recipe card included and an optional sourdough starter to take home if you want to keep the journey going. The session runs under the watchful supervision of Sara’s cat Covinha. Cat allergy or strong anti-cat stance? Just get in touch and an alternative arrangement will be sorted.
The techniques are inspired by a Naples pizza chef and refined over years of Sara’s own practice, which means you are learning a method that has been tested, adjusted and genuinely worked out rather than something put together for the occasion. You will understand how wild yeast and bacteria in the sourdough starter create complex flavour and improved digestibility, how to achieve the right dough consistency and gluten development, how to shape a proper pizza base with a characteristic cornicione, and how to bake for that leopard-spotted char that tells you the pizza is right. The session ends with everyone sitting down together to eat, which is, as always, the whole point.

I am Sara Di Rocco and alongside my sourdough bread, kimchi, bone broth, tea blending, tea meditation and pasta workshops, this is one of my favourites to teach. Sourdough pizza rewards understanding the process rather than just following steps, and this session is built around that understanding. The inspiration comes from a Naples pizza chef and the method has been refined over years of my own practice at home in Lisbon.
Sessions run with a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 10 participants. Two tickets must be purchased for the workshop to be confirmed. Wear clothes you do not mind getting flour on. Please inform Sara of any dietary restrictions in advance.
Not at all! This workshop is designed for all levels — whether you've never touched dough before or you're already comfortable in the kitchen, the host will guide you through every step.
Sourdough is a natural fermentation process using a live yeast culture called a starter. When used in pizza dough, it creates a more flavourful, digestible crust with a light, airy texture compared to commercial yeast.
Yes! If you'd like to continue making sourdough at home, simply bring a clean jar and I will send you home with some starter along with your recipe card.
