Bluefin Tuna and Shark Brumeo fishing trip from Marina de Faro aboard the Katjoa with Captain Pedro Casanova, targeting bluefin tuna and sharks using one of the most effective and exciting techniques available before the bluefin migrate to the Mediterranean to breed. The brumeo method is simple in concept and extraordinary in practice: the boat anchors and is ready to release the buoy the moment a fish bites, while chumming and throwing mackerel pieces into the water creates a trail that draws fish to three or four heavy rods set at different depths with live or dead mackerel on the hooks. Then the waiting begins, and when the fish finds the trail and takes the bait, everything happens at once. Priced per experience for up to five people.

This technique targets bluefin tuna specifically during the window before they enter the Mediterranean to breed, when they are feeding actively along the Algarve coastline and accessible to a well-positioned anchored boat with the right bait and the right captain. Sharks can also appear during a brumeo session, adding an additional dimension of unpredictability to an already high-intensity experience. Captain Pedro’s Katjoa was upgraded this winter 2026 with new omni sonar and electric Minn Kota, giving every trip the best possible positioning advantage on the water.

What is BRUMEO fishing?
