Escola do Mato is an organisation dedicated to teaching bushcraft and fostering a deep connection with nature.
Since 2011, we have been offering specialised courses that enable our students to develop practical skills and gain a deeper understanding of the natural environment.
Our programmes are carefully designed to provide a gradual learning experience, where nature becomes a welcoming, safe, and stimulating space. Through our activities, participants gain the confidence and independence needed to interact with the natural environment in an autonomous, mindful, and balanced way.
Our approach is inclusive and accessible, designed for everyone — regardless of physical ability or level of experience. We offer a rich, multilingual learning experience, creating a multicultural environment where everyone feels welcome.
At Escola do Mato, our goal is to provide practical and transformative experiences that go far beyond technical knowledge alone. We value sustainability, safety, and the well-being of our students, equipping them with the tools to build a genuine connection with the natural world.
No. The workshop is open to everyone, whether you enjoy cooking, working with fire, or simply want to learn new ways to prepare food outdoors. All techniques are introduced and practised throughout the day with the instructor’s guidance.
You’ll explore different outdoor cooking techniques, from cooking directly over fire and embers to making bread and simple doughs, building and using a field oven, and working with a rocket stove. You’ll also learn how to manage heat and cook with minimal equipment.
Bring outdoor clothing and shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty or smelling of smoke, along with a water bottle, plate or bowl, cup, cutlery, a small first-aid kit, personal spices, and hygienic wipes. If you have one, you can also bring a suitable cooking container and a food preparation knife you’re comfortable using. All other necessary equipment is provided by Escola do Mato.
Yes. All food ingredients are provided by Escola do Mato. Preparing and cooking food is part of the experience, so participants will work together to prepare much of what they eat throughout the day. There is no fixed menu, as ingredients and dishes may vary between editions.
Yes. If you have any food allergies, intolerances, or other dietary requirements, please indicate them when registering. This allows Escola do Mato to prepare the activity accordingly.
