Marisa Grilo is a multidisciplinary artist based in Portugal whose practice moves between ceramics, printmaking, and expressive illustration. Her work is deeply influenced by nature, tactile processes, and experimentation with materials. She is co-founder of doBARRO, a ceramics studio and shop in Porto dedicated to creative exploration and hands-on making. Marisa is also a member of the collective Squid Ink Works and has over five years of experience working directly with children and diverse audiences through artistic activities and workshops. Through her practice and teaching, she seeks to create accessible and playful spaces where people can connect with materials, creativity, and slow craft.
Not at all! The workshop is suitable for beginners. Marisa Grilo will guide you through the process, from creating your design to carving, inking and printing.
You’ll design and carve your own linoleum block, apply ink and transfer your image onto paper. You’ll also experiment with different paper textures and discover how they influence the final print.
Linocut is a printmaking technique in which an image is carved into a linoleum surface. Ink is applied to the raised areas of the design and transferred onto paper, creating a distinctive print with strong contrasts and graphic detail.
Yes. The workshop explores different types of paper, including handmade papers, so you can see how texture and material affect the final result. There is also a brief introduction to papermaking.
You’ll create your own design and explore the process of turning it into a print. Please confirm with DoBarro whether you can take home your finished prints and carved linoleum block, as the workshop description doesn’t explicitly specify which pieces participants keep.
