Marisa Grilo is a multidisciplinary artist based in Portugal whose practice moves between ceramics, printmaking, and expressive illustration. Her work is deeply influenced by nature, tactile processes, and experimentation with materials. She is co-founder of doBARRO, a ceramics studio and shop in Porto dedicated to creative exploration and hands-on making. Marisa is also a member of the collective Squid Ink Works and has over five years of experience working directly with children and diverse audiences through artistic activities and workshops. Through her practice and teaching, she seeks to create accessible and playful spaces where people can connect with materials, creativity, and slow craft.
A zine is a small, self-published booklet that combines words and images to express a story, idea or personal interest. It can include drawings, writing, collage and other visual elements.
Not at all! The workshop is open to all experience levels. You can experiment freely and create something personal, even if you don’t consider yourself artistic.
You’ll start with a single A4 sheet of paper and learn how to fold and assemble it into your own zine. From there, you can use collage, writing, drawing or any combination of techniques to develop your publication.
The workshop is designed for each participant to create their own individual publication. Taking your finished zine home is the natural outcome, although it’s best to confirm any specific arrangements with the organiser.
All workshop materials are included, so you don’t need to bring any art supplies. Just bring your imagination, curiosity and ideas — even if you haven’t decided what you want to create yet!
