Escola do Mato is an organisation dedicated to teaching bushcraft and fostering a deep connection with nature.
Since 2011, we have been offering specialised courses that enable our students to develop practical skills and gain a deeper understanding of the natural environment.
Our programmes are carefully designed to provide a gradual learning experience, where nature becomes a welcoming, safe, and stimulating space. Through our activities, participants gain the confidence and independence needed to interact with the natural environment in an autonomous, mindful, and balanced way.
Our approach is inclusive and accessible, designed for everyone — regardless of physical ability or level of experience. We offer a rich, multilingual learning experience, creating a multicultural environment where everyone feels welcome.
At Escola do Mato, our goal is to provide practical and transformative experiences that go far beyond technical knowledge alone. We value sustainability, safety, and the well-being of our students, equipping them with the tools to build a genuine connection with the natural world.
Food is not included. Please bring your own lunch and anything else you may need for the day. At the Base Camp, there will be a fire and some equipment available if you’d like to heat up or prepare your food, as well as a refrigerated area for storing food. Coffee and tea are complimentary, courtesy of Escola do Mato.
All the materials and equipment needed for the workshop are provided by Escola do Mato. Just bring suitable clothing and footwear for spending the day outdoors. We’ll be working directly with natural fibres for several hours, so feel free to bring work gloves if you prefer to wear them.
You’ll learn how to transform locally sourced natural fibres into cordage and explore different basketry techniques. You’ll get hands-on experience with the materials and processes involved, and you’ll take home the pieces you create during the workshop.
Yes! The workshop takes place in a natural outdoor setting, where you’ll work directly with natural materials. Please wear comfortable clothing and suitable footwear for spending the day outside. All the necessary tools and equipment will be provided.
