Chilli sauce workshop in Setúbal for anyone ready to turn up the heat and learn to make their own handcrafted sauce from scratch using homegrown chillis picked straight from the plant. Held in Tom Archer’s garden in Belverde, just twenty minutes south of Lisbon, this is a genuinely fun and flavour-packed session led by the creator of the legendary sauces Netflix and Chilli and Fire in the Hole. You leave with your own jars of handcrafted chilli sauce in three levels of heat, from mild to where is the fire extinguisher, and the knowledge to keep making more at home. A peppering of humour goes a long way and is more than welcome.

Tom walks you through a crash course on different chilli varieties and their hot history before moving into the practical sauce-making itself, working through a quick and easy method using chillis grown in the garden right where you are standing. The three heat levels give everyone something to take home regardless of their tolerance, and the garden setting in Belverde adds a relaxed and genuinely enjoyable atmosphere that makes the whole afternoon feel like exactly the right way to spend it. No need to bring anything except curiosity and a reasonable tolerance for spice.

I am Tom Archer, chilli connoisseur and creator of Netflix and Chilli and Fire in the Hole. I grew up without much spice in my life until travelling through Southeast Asia introduced me to the hottest fruit on the planet and changed everything. Now I grow my own chillis in my garden in Belverde and love nothing more than sharing the history, the heat and the craft of making a great sauce with anyone willing to find out what their taste buds are actually made of. Eating chillis also gives me a very good excuse to drink a lot of chocolate milk.

No prior cooking experience needed. No need to bring anything. Just show up ready for the heat.

I love all things spicy and no matter your experience with chillis I would love to talk you through the history of the chilli and the many different varieties.

Having grown up without much spice in my life it was only when I started traveling around S.E. Asia that I fell in love with the hottest fruit on the planet.

Eating chillis also allows me a good excuse to drink lots of chocolate milk
