Escola do Mato is an organisation dedicated to teaching bushcraft and fostering a deep connection with nature.
Since 2011, we have been offering specialised courses that enable our students to develop practical skills and gain a deeper understanding of the natural environment.
Our programmes are carefully designed to provide a gradual learning experience, where nature becomes a welcoming, safe, and stimulating space. Through our activities, participants gain the confidence and independence needed to interact with the natural environment in an autonomous, mindful, and balanced way.
Our approach is inclusive and accessible, designed for everyone — regardless of physical ability or level of experience. We offer a rich, multilingual learning experience, creating a multicultural environment where everyone feels welcome.
At Escola do Mato, our goal is to provide practical and transformative experiences that go far beyond technical knowledge alone. We value sustainability, safety, and the well-being of our students, equipping them with the tools to build a genuine connection with the natural world.
No. A Day in the Bush is designed for beginners and anyone curious about outdoor life. No prior experience or specialized equipment is needed. It’s also a great opportunity for those who have joined us before to return and enjoy a day in the countryside.
Depending on the season, terrain, and planned activities, you may learn to light a fire and cook over it, work with materials and tools, discover plants and trees, explore natural resources, and practise simple outdoor living techniques. Preparing and sharing a meal outdoors is also part of the experience.
Lunch is part of the experience, but participants should bring the food they want to cook. You can bring raw ingredients, prepared food, or something you would normally take on an outdoor trip. During the day, we’ll explore different ways of preparing and heating food over a fire. Refrigeration is available for food that needs to be kept cool.
Bring clothing and footwear suitable for the weather and outdoor activities, a water bottle, and seasonal essentials such as a hat, sun protection, or a raincoat. You should also bring cutlery and a container suitable for use over a fire, ideally one that can be used on a stove.
No. The Bushcraft School provides the necessary materials and tools for the activities, as well as field cooking equipment. However, we recommend bringing your own individual cooking container suitable for use over a fire or on a stove.
